Since I have gotten married, I have been on the quest for the best white whole wheat challah recipe. I like sweet but not too sweet, and fluffy. I have tried every recipe on here and a few others, and have not been happy.

Here is the best one that both, me, DH, and many guests said is the best!

1 cup of warm water
1 ts of sugar
2 tb of yeast
4 cups of white whole wheat flour (I use Trader Joe's)
1/2 cup of honey
1/2 cup of olive oil
3 eggs
sesame seeds or whatever

First I take 1/2 cup of warm water, add sugar and yeast. Let bubble for a few minutes.

Add to flour, honey, oil, 2 eggs, and the rest of the water (1/2 cup). Knead the ingredients together. Smear the top with a little bit of olive oil. Cover and let stand for 1 hour.
Then braid/make loaf/whatever shape you want & let stand for 30 min, covered.

Wash challah with egg and sesame seeds.

Bake at 350 for 20 mins till brown.

Just want to let you know I've been using this recipe for the past few months and love it. I always have to add a bit more flour, but otherwise it's a perfect ww challah dough. Everyone loves it, and it's so easy. Thanks for posting this.

I don't know if it's purely a matter of multiplying everything by 4.5 in converting it to 5 lbs. Anyone with experience?

2 tablespoons of yeast? Just double checking because it seems like a lot

Yes, and multiplying some of the other ingredients, especially the eggs make me wonder about this recipe. (I came up with the number 4.5 because a typical bag of flour has about 17.5 cups.) Though extra liquid is needed for ww. If anyone's tried it and it comes out well, great.

Yeast (honey to make it activate)

so I made it and I just kept adding more and more and more flour. It was just a lot of water... want to make it again but wondering if I should try cutting back the water?
I multiplied the ingredients by 4 to make more challah- maybe that was my mistake?
it was yummy in the end but too nerve racking to make.
