My 8 year old son keeps on ruining his tzitzis. He plays with the strings until they rip or come off completely. What can I do to get him to STOP??? I'm tired of buying new tzitzis every week!

My ds used to play/pull on his tzitzis all the time. I made him wear it until he tore off all strings from one side. At one point he started complaining that they were posil. I told him they were kosher once until he destroyed it. BH ds stopped once he got a bit older.

Like any other ruined thing: we warn, and if needed punish.

He's been warned many times. Now his punishments is that he can't wear tzitzis!

Then how is he going to learn how to manage them?
The punishment isn't a bad idea. But what's missing is the daily increasing time (start with 10 minutes) when he puts them on and gets rewarded for not damaging them.

That's a good idea Imasinger. But I can't do that when he is in school!

Can you give him something else to fidget with like a stress ball or another small toy that won't distract the class. Some kids need to fidget and if there's nothing else around tzitzis are very convenient.

But you CAN do it when he is home. Perhaps have him start wearing during dinner, when he will be busy and maybe you or DH can supervise. Make a big deal when he doesn't pull at them!

Exactly.
Start at home, and when he can handle a while comfortably, try again with school.
And don't be too upset when there are problems.
Some kids take a long time to learn.
Can he have something else to fidget with in school?
