I was wondering if anyone knows what the hechsher is in the NYC Jewish Museum cafe? Who is behind it, and is it a hechsher that people who eat ou, chof k, star k would eat?

According to their web page (http://russanddaughters.com/jewishmuseum/), they are under the supervision of Rabbi Mehlman from the UWS.

Thank you, but I never heard of that hechsher. Is it reliable, and in the same league as the others I've mentioned?

There are many Orthodox people who eat from places under his supervision, and he's certainly not in the league of the NYC supervisions that are almost universally rejected, but he's also not considered as universally accepted as OU, etc., so as advised, you should ask your LOR or kashrus authority.

He also provides supervision for places that are not CY.

I’m pretty sure he gives hechsherim on eateries open on shabbos. This is something ok, ou, etc. don’t do. I know this is something that my husband and I use to discern what standard the Rav hamachshir uses.

People living on the UWS trust him. It was always said that the difference between him and Rabbi Marmorstein is that he certifies non-CY and places open on Shabbat. But to put it in context the open on Shabbat places he certifies are mostly local Dunkin Donuts, frozen yogurt shops, and the like, I.e. non-Jewish owned places he could check if he wanted.
