Ticket to ride is a really great game. I taught DD to play it at age 6 by introducing the concept for a few rounds -leaving out some aspects of the game, and adding those in after she got the hang of it. She can't get enough of it! If you want more info on how I got her started let me know.

Can someone link to which version is the one that's good. There are so many. I wouldn't want to buy the expensive one if I can get the cheaper one.tia

I think this is the original that we have:

https://www.amazon.com/Days-of.....77324

It is a bit complicated to learn at first. A neighbor of ours knew how to play and taught us how to play and it was so much easier then when we were trying to learn ourselves.

We have the European version which we love.
We played the American one once and didn't like it as much. I don't remember why exactly, but I think it was because the European version has updated rules and more possibilities for routes (even with the American expansion pack).
It's more fun with more people - we usually play just me and dh and it gets a little repetitive. With more people it gets more complicated because you're competing for the same space.

Is there reading involved? I have some prereaders.
Which is the best one, is Rails to Sails good?

Bumping this up. Is this game possible to play on Shabbos? Thinking about getting it for Chanukah for my kids. Thank you.

My kids play this almost every other Shabbat. We have the Europe version. They love it.

There is a small amount of reading involved -- you need to create routes between certain cities and you pick cards that tell you which cities you are supposed to be trying to connect. So you need to read the city names on the cards and on the map.

Just updating this thread to say that the game was super expensive - I think about 270nis at pirat haadom - but I bought it anyway. The children have really enjoyed it so far. Thanks again.

Just start with the original Ticket to Ride. It's a great game! It was hard for us to learn but once we got it we couldn't stop. My kids ages 7-15 all love it. You don't need to be a good reader but you need to be able to read the names of the cities and find them on the map. You can always purchase the extensions or other games after you've played this for a while and need a new twist.

We have the original. Your 10 year old should be ok. They made need help the first time they play to figure out where the cities are. The cards show where on the map the cities located so that helps. My 7 year old can play with some assistance.
This is the one we have.
