I am looking for a day camp for my difficult child in Brooklyn. When she was 7, she was kicked out of day camp for behavioral issues and spent half the summer at home. Last year, she did not get accepted to any of the day camps I applied to. Keeping her home for the summer is not good for her. She needs a day camp with mature counselors and not inexperienced 12-year-olds.
I have heard of the diamond summer program for boys. Does anything exist for girls? She will be 9 this summer. Please advise.

The diamond program is an amazing program for boys with significant behavioral issues... to my knowledge there is no program like it for girls unfortunately . I don't know your financial situation but would you consider putting your daughter into a regular day camp with a shadow who you would pay privately? Perhaps if a day camp hears that you're willing to do that, they would be more open to accepting her .

Paying for the cost of a shadow in addition to day camp tuition is beyond my budget, unfortunately.

Some day camps provide shadows for a smaller fee than you would pay if you hired privately. And sometimes you can get one with Federation money; either the camp can hook you up, or you can ask about funding for a shadow at a pediatric therapy agency. She would likely need some sort of a diagnosis, but I don't know for sure.
