Nope. If you're coming from another country (besides Canada and Mexico) you need your passport. I don't know about Canada or Mexico. Where are you coming from?

Technically, no, the ID has to be current, but I question how many ticket agents really read the entire license beyond name and photo. You're taking a chance--maybe you'll fly (in both senses), maybe you won't.

IIRC, I was at the airport once and a guy ran into trouble because he only had an expired license.

I'd call the airline and check.

Chen, thanks for that! A giggle is always welcome!!

All they ask for is a valid picture ID, and a passport qualifies.

Meantime, get your license renewed!

I don't understand...you have a copy of your passport? Why can't you take along the actual passport?

I'm really skeptical about the copy of a passport as well. . . wouldn't that be easy to fake?

Pardon my nosiness, but what do you mean you have a current passport but it's only a copy? who has the original? and why? Or do you mean you lost your passport and got a replacement from the State Dept.? if so, it's not a copy but a replacement, which is fine.

A copy won't fly--they want the original, of course. Even originals can be faked by expert forgers--copies can be faked by any third grader with a copy machine.

the airline said a copy would be fine.

I flew with my old drivers license with Flying colors
no one checked

on my way home they noticed it was expired and told me to go to the next line and they let me thru !

I was once given a very hard time because my lisence had expired a couple of months prior. I only missed that flight. On the way back, I was all nervous, but noone cared.
