I have the Note 8 and love it, DH has the S8 and is also happy.

I have the s6 and I am happy with it. I had an issue at the beginning with it - I think headphone port stopped working - and they replaced it. It is not waterproof unlike the s5 and s7 (and later ones too I presume) but I just couldn't afford the s7 at the time. Next time I upgrade I will go for the s7. I had an Iphone before but I feel like I get more phone for your money with the samsung s series. More space, bigger phone, etc. Works well. Husband has iphone and also has occasional issues and needs to repair or replace.
