I am going to be in the Santa Monica area for one day. Will be there with kids iyh. What is the best way to spend it? I want to make the most out of those 12 hours. Also, Are there any Kosher eateries there? Is it worth going to LA just for dinner?

It is literally a 15 min drive. Go to LA for food
In Santa Monica area you can do a lot of beach stuff, go to Venice canals, etc or drive over to LA and do stuff there

There are no restaurants in Santa Monica. The closest restaurants will probably be in Pico-Robertson area.

Lots of good kosher restaurants in Pico Robertson. Thai is probably the most unique.

Santa Monica has the beach, Venice beach. What do your kids like to do? You can rent bikes and the path goes a long way. Or just look at the people. Third Street has some interesting stores if you want to shop.

Most of the "attractions" are in Los Angeles which is close to Santa Monica - as well as all the kosher restaurants and food. You can get great stuff for a picnic if you want to eat at the beach.

There's Fish Grill in Malibu, which is a bit north of Santa Monica (fried fish tacos are highly recommended). You can go to the Getty Villa, which is close by, though it would depend on your kids' ages.

Also, just note that while Santa Monica is pretty close to Pico Robertson, it could easily take you 45 minutes–1 hour to get from one to the other during rush hour.
