I would like to prepare something nice / sweet for the new couple in their apartment for when they get home....

Not really a gift more like something sweet....

Stock their fridge/pantry with some if the basics plus some favorite foods. Flour, sugar, eggs cereal, milk, coffee, yogurt, bread, pasta, etc. Use their food preferences to guide what you buy.

I agree. That was such a nice surprise I got. In addition to the above there were also yogurts and milk chocolates. They framed a beautiful poem with each scentence starting with our names written down . It was so thoughtful. I was so hungry when I got home from my wedding and it was perfect ! We also had what to snack on until we went for our brunch to my mother the next day.

A “starter kit” of small things everyone needs and no one gives you: stamps, tape, a Sharpie or two, scissors, rubber bands, binder clips, a couple of pens, notepad, ruler, tape measure, small sewing kit, toilet paper, tissues, safety pins, small hammer and screwdriver, couple of nails and picture hooks, body wash, toothpaste, dish detergent, band aids, mouthwash...little things they shouldn’t have to drop everything and go out to buy right away. Not “sweet” but bound to be used sooner than a lot of their fancy wedding gifts. ( You don’t necessarily give full size packages...you buy a tackle box or other box with multiple compartments and put a few of each thing in each compartment. )

A printed address list of all the people they might need to send thank you notes to....esp. if it’s in the form of self-adhesive labels they can peel and stick to an envelope. Not “sweet” but bound to save them a lot of work.

Or find out their favorite candy nosh and make a welcome home basket. If they like the jewish magazines include that too. With a welcome home balloon or mazel tov signed from all the new sibs and family.

The something extra we got was a beautiful honey dish for Rosh Hashanah and some honey. We eat honey with our challah for all of Shana rishona and we treasure it to this day.

My sil gave us a havdallah set with a pretty candle and matches. It was inexpensive but something we hadn't thought to get.
