This song used to be popular around 25 years ago.
I only remember a few words. Would love to get the rest of the words and maybe the source. TIA!

I remember, I remember
The way it used to be
when the sun was barely rising
And the boys to cheder ran
They no longer can,
I remember
Chorus: Like a day ago, a year ago, a life ago
So clearly, so dearly, so longingly
I remember, yet I forget

I remember going to a Nshei play in Brooklyn in which they performed the Diary of Anne Frank. They sang the song there as well.

Weird, since Anne Frank wasn't even religious.

I went to Bais Kaila '94-'97 and we sang that song at a school play one of those years ...wow, I still feel like I just graduated so many years later! Anyone else feel like that? Where have the years gone?!

Why am I not surprised?
Revisionist history, bais yakov style.
I'm not lol'ing.

This deserves its own thread but I have too much to say and I don't have time or patience to post a dissertation on the subject.

Wow... you have issues about what? A play that’s based on a true story?

I remember, I remember
The house where I was born
In the windows there were shutters
and they opened to the day
Going out to play, I remember

I remember, I remember
The house where I was born,
Seeing Ima lighting candles
on a summer Friday night
Staring at the light, I remember

Like a day ago
A life ago
So clearly
So vaguely
So dearly
So longingly
I remember...yet I forget

I remember, I remember
the way it used to be
how the sun was barely rising
when the boys to cheder ran
They no longer can, I remember

I remember, I remember
the way it used to be
In the country, in the summer
The company of friends
I was pretty then, I remember

Like a day ago.....

I remember, I remember
the world where I was born
I remember, I remember
the world where I was born,
There was music, there was sunlight
there was life on every street
Every dream was sweet, I remember....

Wow, can't believe I remember those lyrics....wonder if my fingers still remember it on the piano. Gotta try later. Thanks for bringing up the memory!

A play that claims it's a true story but "frumifies" it without specifying that it is now historical *fiction* perhaps?

When they first said this was from a play based on Anne Frank I figured it was some choir ensemble about the holocaust in general providing background for the story.

I only remember the first few lines but I remember it slightly differently:

I remember, I remember
The place where I was born
There were shutters on the windows
And...

Thank you so much Chayalle!!!! I've been trying to get the words to this song for years. And no, a Google search turned up nothing.
I wonder if this is recorded anywhere?
