We are planning a trip w the kids to Niagara Falls in July. I looked into prices at the embassy suites since we don’t want to cram into one room and prefer being right near the falls. Dh thinks that a city view room is ok since it comes out to aprox $300 cheaper for our entire stay (just 3 nights). I say let’s do it all the way and spend that extra money. I’m imagining waking up to the view of the falls and it seems so relaxing. Is it really so spectacular? It is a real splurge for us since we are definitely not rolling in dough.

If money is tight, take the city view room. Niagara Falls can be an expensive place to stay (the attractions are a bit pricey), and you will inevitable view the falls at many times during your stay.

If your asking my opinion, I wouldn't spend extra money specifically for a room with a view. How much time will you be spending at the hotel anyway? Personally, I'd rather spend the money on some other fun activity.

I agree. Is there an outdoor area of the hotel with a view of the falls? I assume you're bringing your own food. When everyone wakes up, grab your cereal and eat breakfast outside and enjoy the view.

Beware, Falls View doesnt necessarily mean you are “Waking up to a view of the falls.” You will most likely get a very distant view of a the falls.

I went last year and stayed in Marriott on the falls with a fallsview room. Was worth it for me. My kids r little and we watched the lifhtshow from the window and has a great view. My kids woke up and just stares out the window while we hot ready to leave. We also got a room with an AMAZING view.

This was the actual view from our room. We upgraded our embassy suites room to a room with a full view of the falls and it was spectacular. For me it was definitely worth the extra money to wake up and enjoy the view. Sometimes a fallsview can be a very limited side view, so if you're going to spend extra, make sure you get a full view.

We stayed in the Marriott and spent the $ to get a stunning falls view from one of the top floors. It really was spectacular, but it wasn't as much $ since it was off-season. If you can afford it, it's a nice perk, but if it's going to be straining your trip finances, I definitely think it's optional.
You're not going to spend that much time in your room, and you can get plenty of nice views from up close. Also, if you're not on such a high floor, the views aren't always the best anyway, and then you'll be disappointed about the $.

Thanks for the replies they were really helpful! If im going w the no view I could hv a 2 bedroom suite in the best western for a great price. That’s my most economical option. How does it compare to the embassy? Is it a more shabby hotel? How about the location? We want to be as close to the falls as possible

We go yearly in the winter on the way to Toronto and get suites with falls views for extremely cheap then and have had mixed experiences with our views:
- Sometimes there is fog or mist and you can't see anything.
- Sometimes there are neon lights from a different building cutting your view in half (this was not the embassy suites).
- Sometimes we have amazing views. Mornings are many times better then the evening.
- Most of the time the hotels are up on a hill, with the rooms with the best views high up so you are really just seeing the falls in the distance.
I think I remember the Embassy suites did have great views - we were in a high room with 2 rooms each with falls views (they upgraded our $100 groupon reservation). At night it was hard to see but in the morning it was really beautiful. My kids went 'swimming' in the jacuzzi that had a falls view and thought it was fantastic.
My kids also get up at the crack of dawn - literally - so it was nice to watch the sun rise above the waterfalls in real time in our PJs.
It also depends on if you are the type to spend a lot of time in your room just enjoying the view or will get dressed quickly in the morning to get started with your day and not even enjoy it.
Also in the winter I feel you don't spend as much time down by the falls because it is too cold - in the summer you can enjoy it more up close.
BTW - wherever you stay - park in the Casino - you will save tons of money - and it is right next door to the Embassy suites. And if it is $5 for the night when you park pre-pay because it may just be $10 in the morning and they will make you pay that rate instead.
Some of the hotels without views are much easier to walk to the falls and have better access. Check out map quest for walking distance to get an idea. If you can walk down early in the morning that may be even cooler. Also check out trip advisor for hotel reviews.

I would do the falls view. I splurged and got the falls view in the marriot. We enjoyed every second of it. Would do it again. Even though you see the falls from below, it's not the same. It's worth it if you get a center falls view and a high floor.
