So, I used to be pretty thin. Then life happened, and now I'm in my mid-forties and found that I had suddenly gained over 40 pounds.

I tried a few diets, and this is what happened - WW - didn't lose weight. I probably didn't do it right, but I just find the whole diet so overwhelming, and anyway, I was too hungry for it to really work. I tried keto but I felt absolutely horrible on it, like my brain was completely fried and I got depressed and anxious. The person who told me about keto told me that I got the "keto flu" which makes sense, as I am sensitive to changes in diet.

So now I really need a diet plan. I realized that when I was on the keto diet, I was really not hungry, and the minute I started eating carbs again I was STARVING all the time. So I think the key is to reduce carbs.

Has anyone had success in losing weight with less carbs, but not crazy low? I'm thinking of trying like 40 to 50 carbs a day. Would I lose weight on that? Any insight would be really appreciated!

I'm not in same age range but I lost weight when I ate 45-60 grams carbs a day.
Either 15 for breakfast or 30 for lunch
30 for supper

Thanks so much for responding! That is very encouraging. Even 40 grams of carbs is MUCH easier to follow than 20 grams. Thanks!

Did you eat regular amounts of fat and protein, or did you limit both?

I ate one serving each per meal with lots of cooked and raw veggies. I usually wasn't hungry but I ate more protein and vegetables if I was.

You don't need an official name of a diet, find what works for you.
I am doing a combination of low carb and calorie counting right now.

Read up on Paleo/whole 30 and see if that is what appeals and makes sense to you in terms of what you can realistically follow.
