We're visiting family in these areas this summer, and need day trip ideas for school age children. Would love any suggestions.
We'll actually be in Morristown for a while, so any suggestions for fun family activities in the area would be appreciated!! TIA

We used to visit my in-laws in the Bucks County PA area (about an hour away from Morristown NJ), years ago when the kids were little.
Some attractions that I remember in that general area:
Sesame Place
Washington Crossing
Peddlar's Village near New Hope
the Middletown Grange Fair in August
in Philly there is the kid's museum and also the Franklin Institute of course.
Also the historic center if they are old enough to appreciate that.
There is also a state museum in Trenton NJ and a planetarium.

Fort Mott\Fort Delaware - Ferry to island with fort with reenactments
Atlantic City Recycling Plant - sounds crazy - but they give you a full private tour with a reservation and my kids really enjoyed, we spend a lot of time there.
The museum and planetarium that etky mentioned are good for a rainy or too hot day. Its small but my kids have enjoyed, and the price is normally right. Typically there is a coupon online. Not too much to see in the museum. Outside there is a building with a 9/11 memorial.
The state house is next door and they do free tours for walk-ins. It was interesting.

We've enjoyed Sterling Hill Mine tours, Lakota Wolf Preserve, and Wild West City, all in the Morristown vicinity.
