I’m looking for ideas for a birthday gift for an 8 year old girl. She loves playing with dolls but has an overload of dolls, accessories, dollhouses. I may just buy her yet another thing for her dolls, but would love to hear any ideas any of you may have.

Pottery barn has beautiful wood jewelry boxes with a dancing ballerina inside, that can be personalized with the name.

Yellow, you said what I was thinking, but in a much nicer way.
I was going to say: Nothing.
The kids who have "everything" are the kids who appreciate nothing.
The kids who have little items, but much love are the ones who blossom.
We've got our mindset on backwards in this generation.

Maybe it's her niece who lives abroad and the poster is sending a gift with a relative who is traveling to the 8-year-old's hometown?
Just a thought...

Maybe an arts and crafts kit. Her own art is one of a kind.

First of all, thank you everyone for your great ideas! Very helpful.
Second - I find it interesting how even the most innocent threads aren’t immune from “issues”. This is a girl who has everything including lots of love and quality time. Not sure why the two have to be mutually exclusive. It was just a way of phrasing it. While in the past she always wanted to choose a gift, this year she requested a surprise and I think it’s because she feels it is meaningful if we can come up with an idea special for her that she didn’t choose. She’s a wonderful girl who is from a small family that loves spoiling their children. Nothing wrong with that as long as they don’t become spoiled brats.
But that’s what I love about imamother! You’ll always find someone who has an opinion you’d never dream up, and that’s what keeps the site so intriguing.

I have kids around that age and the last thing they need is more toys. It's not because they "have everything," but they have more than what we can fit in our small apartment.
The most appreciated gifts (appreciated both by my children and by myself) at age 8, for my kids, were magazine subscriptions and special outings (bowling ally, trampoline park, paint your own pottery, child-friendly escape room, etc.)
