They make briefcases for kids? Is this a thing now in certain communities?

I assume she meant backpacks which a lot of people refer to as briefcases. Maybe its local word usage.

Ah, I thought maybe this was some new fad. Picturing little first-graders in power suits and briefcases...

This is obviously my own opinion:
The small size is only good for young preschool. It is very small. Think Skip Hop Zoopack.
Medium is best for pre1A/Kindergarten through elementary school.
Large is middle and high school sized, but my kids don’t find them cool enough by middle school. They do make PB Teen bags though.
Also don’t buy the roller ones. Save yourself.

Does the medium hold a looseleaf easily? Or is a first grader better off with a size large?

ETA: I noticed that a lot of their backpacks only come in small and large sizes. Can you point out the mediums?

My bad. Apparently I have mom brain in a bad way. The preschool one is called PreK. The small is the one my kids have.
My second grader used a small this year. She used it for pre1A and first as well. She will use it again for third.

I just got the small for my preschooler and the size large for my kindergartener and first grader. In my opinion, the small looks great for preschool but is not really a full sized backpack. The large is a bit big for my daughters but is probably more appropriate for their needs, and they can grow more into them. They look like nice quality bags.
