We just found out that we are expecting a baby boy and would like to name him partially after my great aunt whose name was Baila. I know the whole naming a boy after a woman discussion and we would like to do it anyway. Any ideas for names that would work for a way to honor her?
Thanks.

From what I understand, it is a Yiddish derivation of Bella.

I have seen that the name Baila (according to it's 'spelling: Beit, Double Yud, Lamed, Aleph, is an acronym for: Baruch Hashem L"Olam Amen.
"Beit" - Baruch "Yud, Yud" - Hashem's name "Lamed" - Le'Olam "Aleph" - Amen
what about the name Baruch?
AFAIK Baila means beautiful

baila is yiddish and comes from a slavonic version for 'white'. there are some other colurnames like gwenn, alba, fiona, luke or blanche (white), zlata/zahava/golda (gold) or bruna/broyne/ (brown), royze/ blush/rose/shoshana (could be either the flower rose or the colour rose), violetta (violette), chloe/hürriett/legolas (green in greek and türkish), azura and livia (blue), ...
the male version of white is tricky...unless levan is an option ... so why not just stick witha name with bays'b' like boruch, benyomin, ...

This is what we were told by a name expert when we researched Baila.

I always assumed Baila was the Yiddish version of Bella, meaning beautiful. “Yaffa Baila” is a common combination for parents who want the Israeli equivalent to go in front of the name.
Chana is a name that often goes with Baila or Yaffa, and I once heard that Chayn, meaning Grace, or the unearned, free-gift type favor we receive from Hashem, is also the internal beauty that attracts people, and Yofi is an external beauty. So maybe for a boy a name like Chanania, Yochanan, or Chananel? Yosef was also known for his chayn.

Then Yaakov might be appropriate, or the name of one of Bilhah's sons - Dan or Naftali.
Or, to satisfy some of the many options here: Baruch Chananya Naftali.
Alternatively, since anyway Bilhah was Rochel's maidservant, Benyamin Chananel.
B'Shaah Tova OP! May your baby bring you (and Baila A"H) much nachas!

How did you come up with that? What's the Hebrew root?
My great grandfather was Bella bentzion. (Rov in Humgary)
Bella is from the Latin root for beautiful. (French, Spanish, etc.).
