I am at my wits end. If I go more than a few days without washing my 3 year old DD's curly hair, it turns into a tangle of knots and frizz and is impossible to wash without her crying and screaming. Must I really wash her hair every couple of days? Are there any secrets to staying detangled in between showers?

You should be bathing all your kids at least every couple of days.

You do need to wash regularly, not daily. I guess you've tried everything, like combing in and leaving in conditioner? Pantene works for me.

Before bed, try putting her hair up in a very high ponytail on top of her head, aka "a pineapple", and get her a real silk pillowcase. I found them at Marshall's for about $7. Good luck, it's not easy maintaining curly hair!

You need to wash her hair every other day, especially in the summer. Why would you go afew days without washing her hair? Of course it gets knotty & tangled.
You can try spraying "no more tangles" before brushing her hair. Also, use conditioner.

I was little DD curly hair every day! She sleeps with it out and in the morning I put in mousse or gel and she looks the C utests! I only brush when I feel knots, not on a regular basis.
Leave in conditioner can also be helpful for tsngles. Or put some conditioner on the brush with some water, and brush the hair.
I had waivy big hair growing up, I brushed in the shower and that's it.

You do need to wash the hair more often. Minimal every other day

It’s rather common advice.

My 3 year old has very curly hair. We wash it (and bathe her) every other day. We use a fabulous product called Shea Moisture 2 in 1, and lots of leave in conditioner spray. We don't touch it with a comb other than in the baths between baths we just style it with a clip or a headband

Amother natural, it may be common advice for the winter & for adults. But a 3 year old in the summer, who knows what's in her hair.

I have 4 kids with curly hair. I only wash their hair with conditioner. One of them has really dry hair and I usually turn off the shower to let the conditioner sit for 10 minutes. I give her a book to keep her occupied. Usually the day I wash their hair they can leave it down. The next day is always a pony or a bun, and then I have to wash it again. I always wash it in the morning so their hair looks fresh occasionally. I find ethnic hair products work well in my kids hair. Our current favorite brand is Mixed Chicks. Good luck. You really need it. (So do I).

1. This company is what you need for curls.
2. Pineapple her hair at night, satin pillowcases, etc, go to youtube and watch videos on maintaining curly hair.
3. Try the curly girl method with her.
4. When you brush her hair, 1st split the hair is 2-4 sections, than do the bottom half of each section then to top half. If you just run the brush down the entire length at once of course it will get stuck, hurt a lot, and pull all the knots together.

If you didn't understand any terms I used, google them.
Sory, I'm just in a rush.

You want to try the curly girl method (https://www.imamother.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=324393) and avoid over shampooing her hair. Investing in a silk pillowcase might also help with the tangles.

I'm the OP of that thread. It's wonderful.
