I think we've had discussions about this, like shouldn't we be focused on the chosson and kallah instead of our own needs, whatever.
Usually it's the family of the kallah/chosson that WANTS these at the chuppah. Besides cutting down on talking, facilitating such tefilla is a zechus for the chosson and kallah, and whoever the cards are in memory of or to be intended as a zechus for.
And I for one will ALWAYS include the chosson and kallah in my tefillos.
