In my baby book it says baby's first smile should be at 5-6 weeks but online it said 6-8 weeks. My baby will be 6 weeks on Sunday and hasn't started smiling yet so I'm curious what other mom's experiences have been

Most of mine at about 2mo. They are normal happy kids.
One never smiled, she either laughed or was neutral. She has the best poker face (at 2yo)

3 months, exactly. Laughing came a few weeks after that, and babbling.
(She hasn't shut up since! LOL )

Mine started between 5 1/2-7 weeks. If baby is not smiling yet at 6 weeks there's no reason to be alarmed. I think the normal range is about 5-8 weeks, some earlier dome a little later. I wouldn't worry until baby is at least 10 weeks old. Then it would be time to bring it up with the pediatrician. Remebered, all babies develop at a different pace.

I think that up to 3 months is still not something to be overly concerned about. Also, it depends what you consider a "smile" -- are you talking about a full-fledged smile, or just a slight upturn of lips? My older one gave his first smile by 5 weeks, but didn't really smile that often or master the skill until 3 months.
I think that 5-8 weeks is average. Don't sweat it at this point.

My babies smiled at 7-10 weeks. Up till 3 months I wouldn't worry.
