There was an old mansion there called something like Wintorthor house. It's also not far from longwood gardens in PA.

We found a nice park (picnic area, small playground, fields, and non-swimming beach) called Battery Park a few minutes away from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. We had a great time there--my kids really enjoyed standing on the beach watching the water etc. But when we went there once on a Sunday afternoon it was crowded with not-such-high class crowd. It was pretty peaceful on a weekday morning/early afternoon.

We really enjoyed the Police Museum in Dover DE, it was very interesting and there was hardly anybody else there. We also enjoyed the Air Mobility Command Museum. You can spend a few hours there, they have retired air force pilots to show you around and answer questions and you can go inside a few of the planes. My kids were fascinated, and they are mostly girls.
