We use a portable CD player and CDs.
Been thinking about getting something like this but wondering how we can fill it with songs for our teen since it's not internet compatible.

My kids have SanDisk clip jam. Not sure why they like it so much as it's not well rated on Amazon, but they do.

Can they choose songs and make playlist in these devices? And is it only for songs?

I'd also love to buy an MP3 player with no internet capability. Can anyone detail how we add songs for dd to listen to? Let's say I have Google Play and obtain my songs from there. How do I then transfer them to the MP3?

Idk we bought my ds a sandisk and tried to download songs but nothing plays. Just has an error message.
I would love to fund something small and inexpensive that works.

DD has an MP3 that was at TAG before it came home and has songs that *I* put on via the computer. She rarely uses it with earbuds.
ETA that the rest of the family uses a portable CD player or they aux the mp3 to it.

Usually you would download to your computer, and transfer to the mp3 player via USB.

I'm surprised they still make cassette tapes. I hated them 40 years ago.
My teens listen to music on their phones.

Thanks! I'll see if I can download from my Google account to the computer, and then go from there.

Are you purchasing from the google account, or licensing. In other words, is it a monthly fee, or are you paying per item. If the former, AFAIK, you can't use that on a device without internet, because it leaves them without a means to automatically delete things if you stop paying. (Based on my experience with my old, and old-school, iPod.)

My daughter who is 12 almost 13, listens to music on YouTube, on her smartphone. This seems to be an unpopular answer.
