My son at age 11 still can not read and we've tried so many different therapies with no success. Someone just told me about this woman in lakewood mimi steger. She has a program thats supposed to work wonders. Does anyone have any information? Would love to hear more. Tizka lmitzvos

Oops. I heard her name over the phone. Thanks for clarifying. I changed it

Do you have any personal experience with her?

Yes. She's phenomenal. My kids are much older now, but I used her for a few of them who had kriyah issues.

She resolved everything relatively fast, and the kids loved her and didn't give me any problems about going to therapy, which was a plus.

Could not highly recommend more.

If you’re child has been through the system of all the typical tutors, Kria specialists, etc., I would highly recommend Mars. gradman in Monsey. Her method is completely different than the standard and I’ve seen kids who struggled for years, so amazing with it I never a relatively short time.

Do you have her contact info?

Have you by chance heard of mrs metzbach from monsey? I wonder how gradman differs from her.

I don't know. I can only tell you my experience. My older kids all had the same problem- they read extremely slowly and with a great deal of effort. They were accurate, but not fluent. By the end of one summer of 2x a week therapy, they were ahead of their classes. She was just excellent. I didn't stay during the sessions (and this was about 15 years ago) so I can't say what she did. I just know that the job was done really well.

My son didn’t know aleph bais in first grade. He started with her after succos that year and was fluently reading by end of year. He loved her. She really is amazing. She built him up in every which way. He loved going to her.

Thank you debsey and bronze! That's so encouraging.

Keep em coming please. Whoever has anything else to share I would greatly appreciate it!

I don't live in Lakewood though. Wondering if she has students.

I seem to remember she advertised a "how to teach kriyah" course for teachers, so I would imagine she does.

Does her approach have a name or anything? I'm looking for just what you described (increasing fluency when the child reads accurately but no amount of practice is speeding them up) but she's not geographically feasible. Wondering what type of magic this is.

A lot of people with kriah issues have had tremendous success with Dr. Alexander's prism glasses - he's in England though. Plenty of people from America have gone to him and were helped tremendously. I have also heard very good things about Mrs. Gradman, she's in Monsey.

And seeker, I don't know if her approach has a name, I think she made it up herself, but if it's important I can find out.

I almost could've written the OP! Son just turned 11 now and is still struggling with reading both kriah and english Sad. Tutors have helped up to a point and I was hoping the rest would come with time/practice but that's not happening unfortunately..
I'm located in Monsey and would love to hear personal experience with Mrs. Gradman and contact info if possible.

TIA!!

I took Mimi Steger's kriah course. There is no magic. She has a degree in special-ed, maintains relationships with other professionals in the field who can help her fine-tune her approach, continues to incorporate latest research into her methods, and she is positive and passionate about what she does. She understands children and learning disabilities and tailors her approach to fit the child. She does not promise one end-all be-all method guaranteed to turn your child into a gadol hador. She's a normal and successful educated woman in her field.
