Those of you who have a child name Tehilla (or you yourself are named Tehilla), how do you spell it in Hebrew? I've always seen it spelled תהילה, but in Tanach and davening it's spelled תהלה, which is apparently the correct way to spell it. To me, תהלה looks strange and I can see it being mispronounced as Tahala or Tahella. We live in Israel so the Hebrew spelling will matter.

Kind of off topic, but this reminds me of my daughter’s name - Tzipora. We looked it up in the chumash and it’s spelled צפורה, so that’s how we spell it. But many people have spelled it ציפורה (particularly Israelis). I wonder if there’s a similar reason the yuds are being added.

The classic spelling is without a yud but current fashion is with. The yud makes it easier to read correctly without nekudot. With the yud it’s clearly Tzipporah, without it could be Tzafrah, Tzofrah or something else. Same goes for Tehila or any name with a Chirik.

I think it might be pronounced as “Tahala” if you spell without the yud

In Israel, when writing without nekudos, Israelis will add a yud to help pronunciation.
Another example is the name Rina. I read that there is an Arabic name Ranah, so Israelis spell it רינה even though the Torah spells is רנה.

So biblically תהלה is the correct spelling, but in Ivrit it's תהילה.

They are both correct. One is כתיב מלא and one is כתיב חסר
