I grew up in Manhattan, and went to school in Brooklyn. When I would come to school the next day, you could see the remnants of the egg throwing all over. I never witnessed any of this at home.

It has more to do with getting back from Manhattan. Nothing with being in Manhattan.

Midtown Manhattan is a very safe area. Based on your posts that area was less safe when you were younger.

Crime in NYC reached an all time high in the 1970s and has declined pretty steadily since. Even the unfortunate recent uptick isn’t a patch on the terrifying anarchy of the 70s.

When I was in school, we were always dismissed early on Halloween. Egg throwing was very common then.

Macys is not so safe. A man was mugged inside it on Shabbos. |
This is a first. Ive never heard of a mugging inside a store. I wonder if Macy's will compensate the guy for his loss.

It scares me because I shop there. It seems no place is safe anymore.

Interesting... I guess it's easier than shoplifting something, because of all the security tags, etc on merchandise.
Plus you know your victim has cash/credit cards.

Op hope all went well for you.
You were not the only one concerned. Seems many people yesterday were on edge in NYC in part because last there was a deadly truck ramming last year R"L.
And police and undercover were reportedly out en masse due to concerns.

Not more or less than another day personally, but again I am not familiar with people relating Halloween to antisemitism
