I'm looking to buy a nice dress for an upcoming simcha, price range $150 or less. No luck at the department stores, haven't tried the frum stores yet but I hear they're out of my price range.

It would be helpful to know what you're looking for -- a gown, a day dress, whatever.

Knee length dress, appropriate for mother of bar mitzvah boy and something I can wear afterward to other simchas so not overly fancy

I bought for my sons bar mitzvah few years ago by macys for $150. Also gown for close wedding by macys for $150. If u want really dressy you have to make sure they have evening section, not all do.You can also try lord & taylor. Century 21. Dress barn. Notstroms rack. Bloomingdale on sale. Off saks fifth ave. There is one outlet like that in woodbury common. Escada sale.

There is a boutique shop in Manhattan called Accolade. They have stuff from Paris but prices are cheaper than local European imports stores.

Not sure if still applicable. Did you try banana republic? Especially shen they have sales? I recently bought something there for 60 and paid about 20 for tailoring
