In a few recent threads it was implied that 70 is a normal setting for heat.
In my house in the winter, setting the heat at 70 leaves us cold. We need it at 72/73.
Does that mean our heat system isn't great?

It could be that, or it could be your thermostat isn’t exactly accurate! When we got a new thermostat, I found that the house gets hot on 67-68! So it could just be that...

It could be that your house isn't well insulated.

We keep it at 73 and sometimes need to move it to 74 when it's super cold out. We know it's expensive but have a hard time walking around in sweaters when we're indoors.

Definitely... I lived in one house built like an old bungalow, 80 and it was drafty..

Another house, solid brick. 65 and it felt like a sauna....

We also have to push the heat up to 72-75 for the house to be warm on very cold days. The temp in one room is comfortable at 68 but the other rooms are frigid at that temp. The problem is that that one room turns into an oven at 72 so there is always someone complaining. And high gas bills.

70 in our home is an icebox. We keep it at 76, which is probably the equivalent of your 72.

Our house is so drafty, no matter how high I set the heat, some spots are always cold!
I think 69/70 is average.

We keep our thermostat at 66-68.
I'm comfortable and none of the kids are complaining.
Did we all just get used to this temp or are we "hotter" by nature?

Same here. The kids hate when the heat is on!

If anyone has a cold house.. look where the air is coming in. We have one window that has bad insulation. We cover it up and it makes a huge difference.

We also keep it on 73 during the day (range from 72-75) and at night 71-73 probably because of poor insulation. But 68 is really cold, I don't know how people live in a house with that temperature or less

No, it means you like it warmer. Some like it cooler. We’re all individuals and isn’t that grand?

It does have to do with insulation . But, it also has to do with what your body is used to. We keep the heat between 65-66. Anything above that , you'll hear someone complaining that it's too hot. But when we have visitors they always comment about how cold it is.
Our guest area has a separate thermostat and when the guests set the heat to their liking, we find it stifling when we go into those rooms.

OMG I would ROAST if my heat was set over 70! I prefer 66. We set the kids rooms at 67-68 but that's it. If it's over 71 in the house I feel overheated.
Unfortunately this doesn't save us any money because I need the AC set to like 70 in the summer. Everyone else freezes LOL
