Can anyone help me?

My 2nd grade daughter is learning about plants and on her review it said:

The root is the part of the plant that makes the food
The leaf is the part of the plant used to get water

Somehow I always knew it was vice versa but I asked my daughter to discuss it with her teacher and she claimed to be right.

Is she?

According to the "Google Hador" the teacher is wrong.
Quote:
The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil and anchor the plant in the ground. The stem supports the plant above ground, and carries the water and minerals to the leaves. The leaves collect energy from the Sun and make food for the plant, using an amazing process called photosynthesis.

Contact the teacher directly to clarify. Don't send your daughter.

You’re right. Teacher is wrong. Proceed with caution. Unfortunately there are teachers who do not like to be corrected, even gently and respectfully.

Do not miss the significance of this teachable moment. IMHO the important thing is NOT for a second grader to learn the current science on how plants get food, because really this is not very important. The real lesson is-

How do we know what is correct and incorrect?
How do we treat our teacher with derech eretz?
What do we do when someone makes a mistake?
What do we do when a superior makes a mistake?

Etc etc etc

Good luck

Uch. I once worked as an assistant for a very uneducated, self-righteous teacher. She taught the wrong definition for mammal. I privately corrected her, and she was livid...

I'm a teacher.
I don't understand how a teacher can get this wrong. This isn't rocket science (photosynthesis) and they have textbooks!

Just to confirm, teacher is most definitely wrong.

Good luck in dealing with this.

Just wanted to add, if the teacher does not react well, the lesson could be

How to know when a superior is wrong and what to do about it

But we don't know yet how she will respond.

BTW be careful to check that it is not your daughter who didn't quite remember what she was taught. (I'm not 100% sure what the word "review" means in the op).

If this was a worksheet, it sounds like she mixed up the definitions by accident, as it is the complete opposite.
It has to be a mistake, there is no way she thinks that is correct. As a teacher, I would be mortified by grateful is a parent pointed it out to me.

Teacher is 100% wrong. Should have told your dd “good job - I switched the two and you caught the mistake! That shows you really understand”

I’d be very concerned about the teacher Nd review materials she’s sending home for similar factual errors

My son once brought home his reading comprehension book for me to see. Chassidishe cheder. Omg! He had it right & teacher had it wrong & marked my son wrongly. My son was arguing with me that teacher is right because he debated teacher already.

Paragraph said:
In olden times people used wood in order to:
(Fill in blank.) To live in them
It was multiple choice my son picked "to build houses"
Teacher x it & chose to build fires.

Next:
An animal doctor is one who treats ----- in the city.
My son picked pets
Teacher said people is right answer because there are no animals in city.

Duh? We're you ever treated to by an animal dr?
