Bump
B'h both my husband and I come from families that eat latkes either plain, or with ketchup.
Honestly, I think it should be added to the list of shidduch questions....JK

When I moved to the States, this was one of those cultural surprises. I'd never heard of putting applesauce or sour cream on latkes. Only ever ketchup.

Live and learn.

Its So American applesauce or sour cream. The Hungarian backgrounds never heard of these. Cheese latkes blend well with sour cream. Crispy potato latkes I would eat plain or with sour pickles as I eat pickles with potato kugel & make same recipe for latkes.
On pesach I do eat potato latkes with homemade chrein.

If they're really good, they don't need anything on them. And if they're not really good, why waste calories?

Applesauce all the way. The only other time I indulge this weird combo is pesach when I make fresh applesauce and fresh kugal and eat the two together😍

I grew up on applesauce and sour cream. We sometimes didn't bother with sour cream but latkes was always with applesauce. My family is very American. My DHs family are from South America and they think applesauce and sour cream ruins latkes. We eat plain latkes and love them that way.
