Besides sour cream and apple sauce what other dishes (not condiments) would go well with latkes? Having friends over tonight and don’t know what to serve with it. Soup? Salad?

I served latkes in a fleishig meal, there was chicken, latkes and salad as the side dish.

But if I serve it in a dairy meal, I'd serve it with soup and salad or fish and salad.

Choose any protein and veggie. The latkes stand in for whatever other starch you might have served.

Lasagne or ziti.

A crunchy, colorful vegetable salad.

If you want a cooked vegetable, something crisp such as lightly steamed green beans, perhaps served cold with a vinaigrette.

Hearts of palm salad with tomato and avocado isn't crispy, but it is colorful and a little acidic, which would go well.

Fresh fruit for dessert - we're partial to citrus to help balance out all the oily Chanukah food.

Why? Don't they get soggy?

Because it's delicious. Same for potato kugel.

I object! Absolutely not. Nope, no, nein. That is no way to eat a latke. I mean, do what you want in the privacy of your kitchen but I don't think it's appropriate to publicize this. I am willing to die on this hill.

Agree, unless amother slateblue is talking about cheese or apple latkas. Though I’m not willing to die for it.

Latkes to me count as a main, they have enough eggs! All you need is a soup or salad IMHO.

I used to eat by a family on Pesach that served Potatoe Kugel in the soup at the Seder.
When I mentioned that to my kids they said they wanted to try it and we do that sometimes.
Can't see why latkes would be different .

It has the same amount of eggs as Potatoe Kugel. I would never serve Potatoe Kugel as a main dish. I do the exact same recipe, just one is formed into patties and fried in oil and the other is baked in a pan and has the oil mixed into it already.
