I don’t know what thread it was in, but a few people mentioned the idea of getting more money or a bigger present on the 5th night, but no one was able to give a reason why.
I was just listening to a recording from zahava farbman. She tells a story called five candles, five weddings. I won’t tell you the whole story (Ivan post a link if anyone is interested) The idea of the 5th night of chanuka being special is a theme throughout the story, and the following idea is mentioned more than once. Apparently, the 5th night is the only night of chanuka that can not fall on shabbos, and this represents a tremendous darkness, because the light of shabbos can’t penetrate it. The 5th light symbolizes that the light of chanuka can illuminate even such intense darkness. Our duty as Jews is to illuminate the darkness as best we can.

Edit: the first person she attributed it to was the Lubavitcher rebbe (either the last one , or the previous one, I’m not sure which)

It is also simply the first time that the majority of candles are lit symbolizing victory of light over dark.

Haven't seen the video yet, but love the two completely contradicting answers. Either

1. The only night cannot ever fall on Shabbos, indicating a possibility of "victory" of darkeness

2. The first night where the candles are in the majority, indicating the beginning of the victory of the light

I've always learned a very practical reason- since the 5th night of Chanukah cannot fall on Shabbos, we give gelt on that night. Money is muktzeh, but that's never a problem on the 5th night.
