My kids loved Mary Poppins and chitty chitty bang bang, Charlie and the chocolate factory. They also really like wild Kratts, which is a TV show about animal conservation.

Was going to say Mary poppins. Bedknobs and broomsticks, Pollyanna....

Basically any old movies should be fine.

The rescuers, the rescuers down under, the great mouse detective, 101 Dalmatians, the fox and the hound, Pete’s dragon...

There are so many....

Thanks for the replies.
Prefer movies without scary scenes...or is that asking too much?

Not a movie, but there is a tv show called Llama Llama based on the popular children's books. It's very sweet, clean, and the plots are realistic and relatable for the age group. Like starting a lemonade stand, sharing preferred toys, dealing with a new baby in the family. There are two episodes about Halloween and Xmas, but I just avoid those.

It's available on Netflix.

Not necessarily. I used to think so until I showed my class the movie Sandlot (an old favorite of many of my colleagues) and they used words we wouldn't want our 5- and 8-year-olds hearing. I guess in those days they weren't bad words but you can't rely on the age of the movie, unfortunately.

OP, I agree that the movies here are good, especially Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Mary Poppins. Brings back memories!

As a kid, I loved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but there's one part that scared me so maybe watch it before your 5-year-old. (The part where the child-catcher turns and says something close up to the camera about how no children are safe from him...scared me for years lol).

We found that feature-length films, even those intended for young children, often have at least one action-adventure sequence that could be considered scary. IME best to stay with episodes of very gentle TV shows such as Clifford or Arthur if you want a totally non-scary animated video.

How about episodes of Dudu Fischer (HaGan shel Dudu in Hebrew)?

My son watches in hospital paw patrol tv shows. He was obssesed with these characters. I find it cleaner than others. It's a team of dogs like police, firefighter on a rescue mission. Cute!

The Johnny Depp version? Yikes. I thought that was creepy.
Much prefer the 1973 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film.

The Wizard of Oz is nice, but there are some scary close-ups of the witch.

Charlotte's Web is nice. The animated version from 1973.

The Sound of Music (v. long though)

Mary Poppins has very little scary, just a touch to add drama, how sensitive are you to this aspect? Much less scary than a lot of the "innocent" old animated Disney movies.

It's been a long time but I remember Toy Story being very innocent.

As others said, original Willy Wonka is very mild on the scary, I have seen highly sensitive people get really creeped out though.
