Bosch dishwashers are pretty universally thought to be extremely high quality.

Bosch makes some excellent dishwashers, but I own an inexpensive Bosch DW that is simply not a good product.
Whirlpool has a good reputation in moderately priced dishwashers.

I absolutely hate my bosch dishwasher.
go for kitchenaid or maytag/amana/whirlpool
way happier with that.

I am very happy with my low end Bosch. However, the detergent makes a very big difference. I get very good results with Finish Quantum dishwasher packets, okay results with Seventh Generation powder + jet dry + citric acid, and unacceptable results with just powder.
You do need to scrape dishes, because there is no food disposal.

whirlpool cheap: worked for 7 years very good results, but have to replace it now
I think 7 years is not long. yes I used it very often and I didnt take care of it very much. I had excellent results with cheap generic powder, no scraping, no dirt, worked magic...but only 7 years.
do you think a bosch that costs twice as much would last me 14 years?

My Bosch was bought in 2004 and was still working when I remodeled this year. I Just finished a major remodel and only replaced the old 2004 Bosch because I thought it made sense to replace everything rather than wait for it to break in a few years. I also wanted a panel ready model so it would blend with my cabinets.
FWIW, Bosch recommends Finish dish washing detergent so that's what I use. I always try to use what the manufacturer recommends.

Our Maytag dishwasher lasted 18 years. The dairy dishwasher is still working. However st this point, it doesn’t make sense to repair the broken one.
One electronics store recommended Kitchen Aid. Salesman said it’s better than Maytag. I’m wondering how it compares to Bosch.

Update: upon strong recommendation from a salesman of a strong from where we purchased many times in the past, we purchased a Maytag. Used it last night for the first time. Many dishes and cutlery remained dirty. I am so disappointed!!! So much money. I rewashed the dishes in the machine and they still did not get cleaned properly. We used the detergent samples that came with the machine so that’s not the problem.
Now what? I spend the next few years calling down repairmen????
