I have a Microsoft Windows Phone. It has almost no memory left (not the phone nor the SD card) and it seems the best way to clear up space is to uninstall and reinstall What'sApp. What'sApp is saved to the phone.

My questions (which perhaps should have been sent to Imatechie or Imacomputernerd or something) are:

1. Will this actually help to clear up space?

2. I have a number (maybe 20) of not-yet-listened-to messages that are about 10 minutes each. I have not been able to download them due to lack of space. Is there any way to save these/ get them back?

3. Will I lose all my contacts and groups etc?

4. If so, how can I get them back?

Hoping someone can help.

Thanks.

The best way to free up space, is to go through the what app images and videos and delete all those photos that ppl have shared with you on groups ect... Also delete apps which you don't use.

I dont know about windows phones, but with android phones you can backup your whats app chats to google drive and with iphones you can back them up to icloud. You cannot view these backups, they are only useful if you want to transfer everything to a new phone.

I think you can also send entire conversations along with the media in them to an email, or to google drive or other platforms. Not sure if its an issue that the media isnt loaded on your phone to begin with.

Let me know if you need better instructions.

Also I think if you uninstall and reinstall you will not lose your groups. Not sure about contacts - aren't they only stored in the phone and not in whatsapp itself?

I have whatsapp installed on my laptop.

It can serve as a backup.

Are you sure? As far as I know it just syncs with whatever is currently on your phone so you can send, receive, view etc as long as your phones is on with whatsapp working...

You can delete the media from the largest groups.
Settings->data storage->storage use. It will show the groups with most data.
You can tho click on a chat and select manage on the bottom and delete all videos and pictures at once.
Or to be more selective Open the chats with the most storage usage. View media only and delete lots of old item. That should clear up memory quickly.

So I deleted a whole heap of videos and voice messages and even other apps.

But now WhatsApp says Storage Full and won't open at all.
