Very eerie story: a chosson and kallah were kvatters at the kallah's nephew's bris. The engagement was later broken. The baby was niftar soon after.

The kallah's father discussed it with his Rav, who apparently did think there might be a connection, as the kallah and her family had broken the shidduch(perhaps not so nicely). The Rav advised the father to give the chosson a large (for them) sum of money and request mechillah again, although both sides had signed shtar mechillahs already. The Rav also advised the chosson to accept the money.

I've heard of it very often actually, even a divorced guy with his mother.

Trying to understand what the issue is, that kvatters should only be a married couple ?

DS#2, who is not yet married, was recently kvatter for my grandson — DS#1 and wonderful DDIL must want DS#2 to get married already!
