Just a thought about the therapists you mentioned.... It is NOT in their scope of practice to recommend medication. They should not be saying what type, dosage etc medication a client should be on. Only psychiatrists can do this. Scope of practice is a legal term. You should do what you think is right, keep all parties in the loop, and write releases so they can share insight into best care. But a LCSW, psychocologist etc isn't capable of discussing whether to go on meds!

This is true. Many people think they need the therapist to determine or recommend if meds are needed. Sort of like giving permission. It's really only their place to recommend a psychiatric consult, and then the decision making should be done with the psychiatrist

Not to hijack, but in the exact same situation as OP.

Anyone know of a great psychiatrist in the 5T area? For 11 year old?

Just one comment to respond to Coral Amother, I find that some therapists who see a lot of kids with ADHD can have good insight into medications since they see so many children who are on different types but you need to take those insights to a reputable medical doctor for further discussion.

My son sees an excellent therapist who sees many many boys with attention issues and he has been a good source of information for us in terms of medication. It goes a long way in making the medication process less overwhelming.
