Every Jewish cookbook now features some kind of kale salad. I don't get it - I was told numerous times that kale is verboten. Like the new broccoli, you can't adequately check it for bugs, so don't even try.

Believe me, I struggle with this. I grew up eating any kind of vegetable and fruit that I liked, and all this hand-wringing about bugs we can't see very well doesn't sit well with me. Still, I'm trying to be a better person, but it's frustrating to see that everyone is on the kale bandwagon, eating aphids with abandon.

I kid, I kid. Don't hurt me.

Anyone wonder about this?

The CRC gives very specific instructions for how to check kale and other leafy greens. I personally dont do it because I am lazy but its not verboten as far as I know just labor intensive. http://www.crcweb.org/NewFruitandVeglist.pdf

You can get pre checked kale in the kosher supermarkets.

You can find kale in target and Walmart with a KORC. (Not everyone eats this.)

Curly kale maybe, but flat kale not at all. It's as easy to check as collards or chard.

You can check/clean it. The StarK has instructions how to do it with a thrip cloth. Not the quickest but it's possible.
