A lot of people who live in the suburbs work in the city.

Don't forget if you work in nyc but live in nj, you file both NY & nj state taxes.
Our property taxes in passaic are 21,000 a year. It is rediculous.
Traffic to the city gets bad as well, especially with the construction on Rt 495 & Lincoln tunnel.

The commute from the last stop on monsey (flea market) to the first stop in Manhattan (before B&H) took 40 min this morning. And that's because 3/4 of the daily commuters stayed home due to the impending snowstorm. The roads were empty. For the people who needed to get to wall street it took a lot longer obviously.
Take Monsey off your list.

Generally property taxes in Clifton are somewhat lower than in Passaic, probably because Clifton has a larger tax base. I have heard about an effort to expand the frum community into Nutley, which is adjacent to Clifton and might be cheaper.
