Friday night:

It's just us because it's been a hard week and wanted a quiet Friday night, so we're skipping fish (I know, I know), and I'm making a quick chicken Marsala with lots of mushrooms with green beans on the side and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. I'll save a little roasted garlic and oil for DH to spread on his challah bc he's been asking for garlic bread lately. Fruit for dessert: cut up apples with cinnamon and date syrup if I'm lazy or if I have time/energy stewed blueberries or cherries.

Shabbos morning:

We've got fruit, cereal, and DH might pick up some cakes.

Shabbos lunch:

Also quiet but we're having some of our single friends over. It'll be a big taco meal. I'm chucking some meat and salsa in the crockpot and throwing together pickled or marinated red onions, cilantro corn salad, shredded cabbage salad, cashew "cheesy" crumbles, pico de gallo and some store-made beans, tortillas, and guacamole also lots of lettuce. People on diets can have taco salads, gluten free people can use corn tortillas or lettuce leaves, picky eaters can stick to the meat and flour tortillas, and whatever salads I don't get to before shabbos, I can throw together right before we eat. I have no idea what to get for dessert but most of our guests this week are health conscious so if we don't have its not the end of the world.

We're actually eating out tonight (a rarity for us!). I'm making potato kugel (for Friday, and the rest goes into the chulent) and fish, Challah, dips, homemade applesauce with strawberries (cuz we like it, and I had alot of apples), cinnamon babke, and a milchige pound cake (to use up greek yogurt that's been sitting in the fridge).

Shalosh Seudoes will be whatever is left - challah, dips, fish, babke, applesauce.

I love your lunch idea! How does ground beef do in the crockpot for so many hours?

OP I would suggest cut fresh fruit for dessert. Like pineapple, maybe some melon or cantaloupe if you can get a ripe one, mangos, kiwis, etc...

I haven't tried it yet but want to because DH prefers ground taco mean. I had a big chuck roast in the freezer that I defrosted and will be using instead. It falls apart into "pulled beef". I wish there was a kosher version of Chipotle restaurant but this is what I imagine their beef barbacoa to taste like based on pictures and copycat recipes LOL

I had sriracha-maple brusselsprouts recently that were incredible. Done stovetop but I'm trying to make a copycat oven roasted recipe.

What do you do to yours and how do you keep them warm for shabbos without getting that weird sulfurous taste that happens when they "steam" or overcook?

I haven't found a nice ripe melon since the summer Crying Crying

If o can find a ripe mango, mango with chili powder and lime would be in keeping with the taco theme though-- thanks for the idea!

I usually roast them with olive oil salt and pepper until they are just borderline burning. You want them to be brown and caramelized but not actually burnt tasting. They have such a good natural flavor I dont add a whole lot extra. Sometimes some balsamic vinegar or sauteed onions or facon if I feel fancy. I usually let them sit out so they get to room temp. I dont want them to get mushy.

Do you serve everything at the table together? I’m curious how this works. All sounds delicious

Everyone’s menus sounds yummy. I’m hosting both meals, am exhausted and trying to keep it simple. I regret inviting guests for both meals- what was I thinking???

Cute thread idea! Usually we have more elaborate meals and guests but several family members have been sick this week so we are doing pretty non-traditional stuff this week (for us): tonight is simply homemade wonton soup, Chinese-style broccoli and eggplant, and challah. Store bought cookies for dessert. Tomorrow again, just us, I'm going to put up a veal stew in the crock pot. Serve with challah, maybe rice, and salad. DH is the one who is sickest right now so with his reduced appetite I'm making less food than usual!
