Hashgacha pratis story.
I heard a far relative of mine needed lung transplant because there was a bird nest with birds living many years in their dryer vent.

I told my dh, maybe we have the same thing...lets check it out. My dh responded that: What are the chances that just because you heard a story, that we have same thing. We don't have any extra money for that...
I felt that we might have same thing....hence the suffering of diff ailments in house.

One day, this guy knocks on my door, saying I just cleaned vent by your neighbor, can I do yours too. Since I'm here already, you'll get a better price. Low & behold he blew out a bird nest!

You do realize that's a sales technique? I wouldn't be too sure there was actually a bird's nest .

Once a year a professional is supposed to unscrew it and clean out the whole thing till the outside vent

DH had some sort of screen put over the end so the vent doesn't have to be cleaned again.

I don’t see how. The gas and stuff has to vent outside. How do you prevent it from doing so without having unhealthy fumes and then like?

I don't know. It's probably a special screen. Gas can pass to the outside. Toilets have vents also on the roof. I don't know how they work either. AFAIK they aren't cleaned out annually.

I know is such a thing exists and works. It has been looked at by an engineer.

Great. It's still a classic sales technique. I have gotten a few sales pitches over the years like that.

We were told to take off the screen emergency because it can cause a fire c"v.

It costs $150 on average.

You are supposed to clean it every second year.

Many vents have a flap on the outside of the house to prevent birds from flying in. The flaps blow open when the dryer works.

A screen will end up with lint buildup. That lint is extremely flammable.
Maybe split the cost of that machine to blow the vent between a few neighbors.

Bumping up an old thread where I found a bunch of phone numbers. Do any of these people also do appliance repairs? I'd like to have the dryer looked at, at the same time I schedule a cleaning.
