I am considering relocating to the US from my non-European country. I am looking for inexpensive, supportive communities for a divorced, moderately Yeshivish single mom with a toddler. I have family in Long Island, and working on getting a green card. Any ideas?

Long Island and inexpensive usually don't go together. Actually, NY and inexpensive usually don't go together. If you want to be near your family there, Bayswater is a good fit religiously and about as good as you'll get financially in that part of the world. If you're willing to move farther from NY, or even consider suburbs, your money will go a lot farther.

Maybe possibly Passaic? (Maybe someone who lives there now can confirm or deny this.)

Where on Long Island does your family live? I agree with Bayswater being the the best bet. The yeshivish community in West Hempstead is small and East Meadow only has a few families- they are just starting out. Bayswater will have a better support system
