The best rags are those of old good quality dish towels. Alternatively you can cut up old worn out towels.

Microfiber. I use it for everything, and it's brilliant for polishing, getting grease off, and picking up dust. I don't use anything else now.
If you live in Israel, just ask for sponga rags.

I like using cloth baby diapers and cotton washcloths (in addition to squares from undershirts).

I buy microfiber cloths from Home Depot. They work great and wash week. I have not bought paper towels in years since I discovered these.

The yellow ones are awesome. The perfect size, and so cheap!

I have not found microfiber to be anything to write home about. They are not very absorbent and just move the wet around. The best rags are old cotton knit like undershirts or soft but thick woven cotton like old diapers and waffle-weave dish towels. Cotton flannel is also excellent. Terry cloth is too linty for dusting and polishing but good for mopping up spills. Crisp woven cotton like shirts and sheets are ok for dusting but don’t absorb and aren’t good for wet cleaning.
JMHO.
