Anyone heard of doing a pidyan haben for 2nd child? My first child I had a C-section. Now I bh had a boy vaginally, would I need to make pidyan haben. Obviously I would ask my Rav but wondering if it's even a normal question to have or he would just have a good laugh 馃槀

Nope, just for a firstborn son that had a natural birth. No need to even ask your Rav.

Thanks. That's a relief. I thought pidyan is when baby opens womb.

It is, but even a csection has the womb open for the baby to be taken out.

Pidyon has to be the mother's first child. Even a miscarriage past a certain point would mean no pidyon for a firstborn son. Now, it is possible for a second son to have a pidyon if he's the father's second son but the mother's first. I actually once attended such a pidyon, where the father had a few kids from his first marriage, so the baby had older siblings but was the mother's first child.

I actually attended a pidyon haben for a third son. The first two were adopted.

My friend had a pidyan Haben with her second marriage, no children by the first. Her dh though made 2 pidyan habens. One from the first marriage and one from the second one.
