We are calling it for 5 so we will start by 530. (NY)
We like to eat the main part of the seudah before shkiyah.
But I know others start later.

Here it’s 3:00 - 4:00 to start. That way the men can sober up before maariv.

There is no norm. Our invitations over the years have ranged from 2 pm to 5:30 pm. This year clocks changed already, so people may feel comfortable starting even later.

I think my DH told me that the Seuda is supposed to go into the night so that's why you start closer to Shkia but maybe I'm not remembering clearly.

Yes you're supposed to try to wash before shkiyah and bench the next "day".

Also- depends on your schedule. Do you need to go out during the day delivering mm or do you need time to cook anything and want to start a bit later - or is your day empty and you want to fill it up. Are your guests local or are they going to be travelling in?

I thought you are really supposed to have your seudah earlier and it should take up a large portion of the day and NOT be mostly at night. Interesting.
