I realized we have no white sugar and I'm too cold to go out. Can I use brown sugar in my challah instead? What would happen as far as the taste goes?

I do have a little honey, but I'd rather not use it if the brown sugar would work. If I do end up using the honey do I use the same amount as I would sugar in the recipe?

I'm sure you can but it will probably change the taste a bit. Perhaps for the better. Smile

OK so in the end I substituted half brown sugar and half honey. We'll see how they turn out! Rubber Ducky, good to know you have good results!

I experiment with baking a lot. I wouldnt recommend it, but it wont be bad.
Id rather do honey. Less than amount in sugar, bc it is way sweeter. Id also subtract a little liquid, so the texture wont be too sticky.

I love baking with brown sugar. It adds a little depth of flavor to things. I find white sugar to be too bland most of the time.
