My kids are in a chassidish Cheder in borough park and are being taught a very old school negative version of yiddishkeit. My 4 year old came home saying that if he’ll lein krias shema with kavana the fires of gehinom will be cooled off for him. I was horrified. I want my kids to do mitzvos out of love, not go to sleep with the fear of the fire in hell thats awaiting him. There are quite a few other examples of fear and negativity being used to instill yiddishkeit in the kids. I’d like to switch them into a Cheder that is more open and instills a warmth and love for yiddishkeit into the kids. Where the attitude is one of how beautiful it is to be a yid and what Schar and rewards we’ll reap eventually. So far someone has mentioned mevakshei Hashem. Is that the sort of atmosphere there? And is there any other Cheder that has this atmosphere as well that I should look into?

OP, sometimes it's the Rabbi, not the specific cheder. Have you spoken to the Rebbi or Menahal about it?

It’s the environment in the Cheder as a whole. I’m wondering what mevakshei hashem is like. Anyone??
