Thanks to the thread about the Op brushing off a newcomer, now I am nervous. We are moving to another state this summer, and I hope I make new friends since I can be at first shy but outgoing once you get to know me. Reassurance?

Good luck with the move!

From the reactions to that thread, you can see that most people aren't nasty and will try to be welcoming. If you have children, it's easy to meet other families through them. Also, try to volunteer for community projects. (Sometimes it's the same clique of women who run certain events, but keep trying until you find something.)
