Are you sure it's not a nickname for Fradel / Fraidy?

nope- it's yiddish/German name on its own- and I have heard the meaning to be either joy (like fraidel) or flower. Wondering if anyone has more insights for me...

I googled it. Seems like some people were named with this name in 1700-1800's in Germany, including a Rothchild. No definition though.

Please, please don’t use this name ...
Maybe it was a nickname for Fraidel the shadchan?

It sounds like it's from German-Jewish origin.
We have a similar name in dh's family - which we are NOT using.

Sounds like a nickname/diminutive of Fradel, in German. Like how Greta/Gretel becomes Gretchen, Fradel becomes Fradchen.

I would guess that Yulchen is a diminutive of Julia which is pronounced like "Yulia" or "Yoo-li-ah" in German.
