I had the most delicious lamb shank at a steakhouse, and I am now in the mood of making lamb stew for supper. Does anyone have a good recipe? I want the focus to be on the lamb, not too many veggies.

I am making lamb stew right now!

Ok, here’s what I do:

Get lamb on the bone - it’s much tastier.
Saute in olive oil.
Add potatoes or sweet potatoes (whatever you’re in the mood for), carrots, chestnuts if you have any.
Dry red wine, bone broth, fresh rosemary, and spices add flavor.

Let simmer for about two hours.

Mine smells good! Let me know how yours turns out Smile

I do lamb stew with tomato sauce, veggies (okra....) I’ve also used marinara sauce, a bit of sugar and lemon juice. Yum!

I always sprinkle some dried mint into anything that has lamb. Yummy!

This sounds so good ! Is there any way you can give approximate measurements ?

I want to make but am not good at ‘winging it’ in the kitchen

Lol I basically “wing it” every time and it turns out good.

Approximately: for 2 lbs of meat use 6 potatoes and 2 bunches of carrots.

For the sauce it’s really whatever/however much you want. Just make sure there’s not too much liquid, so it ends up nice and thick.

Plov is an Uzbek dish.

There are a lot of nuances in making it properly.

I like to alternate - there's the traditional Scotch type stew (onions, garlic, potatoes, carrots, parsnip, barley and bay).

Then there's a middle eastern flavor - cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, chopped tomatoes, celery, carrots, chickpeas, cilantro, garlic, onion and zucchini

And recently I made a successful Asian flavored lamb broth: rice, leek / onion, garlic, soy sauce , rice wine vinegar and mushrooms.

All are well liked in my family, and thank you for reminding me that we are about due for another lamb stew!

Try making it with a bottle of dark beer like Guinness. It absolutely takes it to the next level.

I make a lamb curry by adding canned tomatoes, curry powder and chili sauce (depending on how spicy you like it, keep tasting and adding), and potatoes.

When it's done, add one can of coconut cream (not milk).

It's impossible to overcook lamb curry, so you can keep it in the crockpot overnight. It just keeps getting more tender and the flavors keep developing. I serve it over Basmati rice.

Yum. I love lamb. I tend to keep it simple with onions garlic and red wine or even water. Lamb has such a delicious flavour I don't think it needs too much messing around with. Potatoes are also great to absorb the flavors.

My kids have asked me to make this but I'm afraid it will make the house smell too "lamby" all Shabbos!
Do you find it has a pungent smell?
