I'm a down-to-earth, low standard of living, JPF with elementary school aged kids. Is this a community where I can find people like me or is it all overrun with Five Towns higher standard of living people? Are there nice 2-3 bedroom rental apartments (no basements, normal family homes) and what is the cost range? What schools and shuls would JPF families go to? How's the commute to Manhattan?

Commute to manhattan is approx 1 hour on LIRR. Lots of men do the commute daily. There are all types there. Rent is prob between 2-3k

It's really not a good commute into Manhattan unless your office is right by Penn Station.

Try inwood as well. Housing market is not the greatest but it’s a wonderful low key community. It’s technically one of the five towns but a much simpler lifestlye then the other 4. As far as schools there are lots of wonderful schools here. Based on how u describe yourself, for your girls I would suggest tag or ateres Miriam and darchei for ur boys.
