My husband also really liked this book.

Dual Discovery by Zacharya Hoffman. A magnificent piece of historical fiction that completely changed Pesach for me. If only he’d write one for every yom tov.

Funny, but I own and enjoy the Little Midrash series. I re-read the ones on Navi every once in a while to keep my knowledge of Navi current.

Sun Inside Rain
Forever My Jerusalem
The Pomegranate Pendant

I loved all 3 M Kenan's books particularly for the lack of fairy tale ending.
It's one of those books that I can't be positive who will actually win at the end of the series.

Recently I reread all the Avner Gold books (read them with my kids) and I was all awww. Not my favorite all time but high on my list.

The Exiles of Crocodile Island

Hebrew fiction I wish they would translate - all of the books by Libby Klein - they are absolutely amazing!

This is such a great thread! Thank you, gingertop, for starting it, and thank you to everyone who contributed to it.

Dear yerushamama,

I wanted to look up on amazon the cookbook that you mention, but for some reason cannot find it there. Where did you get it? Can you please post a link? Thank you.

Fyi- this is actually a pen neme for a woman. A brilliant, chassidish woman. She started writing this book in high school, and, after a few years, took up the project again and completed the manuscript.

Why did she take a male pseudonym?

I find that kind of sad, actually, though maybe she felt it would be more acceptable, being that she bases it on medrash. It does make sense in our world, though again, kind of sad.
However, that being the case, if you know her, can you please implore upon her to write more? I know people compare the "Let My People..." series, but for me it isn't even close.

Yup kenz,

That's basically the reason for the male pseudenym.

She's a friend of a friend... We hardly bump into each other. But whenever I meet her next, I'll pass on your regards.

Really? I've often wondered. Has she written anything else? It was magnificent.

Please do!! As a matter of fact, if she’s not writing because she’s simply busy with life, I’d be honored to help! (Yes, I do work in the field.) The fact that she wrote it as a young girl just makes it more incredible. I would have guessed that “Rabbi Hoffman” had many years of limud Torah behind him.

My all time favorite Jewish book is...
Every Man a Slave
If you haven’t read it, you should. (Historical fiction set in US around the civil war).

(And, yes, I know I broke the rules, but in all the other categories, the books just seem to meld together. None stand out as amazing! This one, however...)

Historical fiction- full harvest
Fiction- the 4 seasons of Golda mirel
YA- a light for greytowers
(I also loved the 3 part series working it out, getting it right and making it last, as a teen.)
I really liked the bamboo cradle as well.

Thanks for reminding me about the four seasons of golda mirel! I read that book years ago and I loved it. I wanted to mention it, but I couldn't remember what it was called.
